  1. I would like to submit a couple of CD’s from Afro Jazz pioneer and extraordinary singer from Peru, and partly based in New York, Corina Bartra.
I am enclosing one of the latest review of her new CD by Fox Entertainment.

Corina Bartra & Her Azu Project – Afro Peruvian Jazz Celebration

Corina Barta is an accomplished jazz composer, practitioner of Yoga and vocalist that delves into chanting and healing with her music.

Afro Peruvian Jazz Celebration is exactly what it advertises to be and Corina’s far reaching understanding of the human emotions and inner triggers for relaxation and meditation allow her to make the music a vehicle for her vocals regardless of the setting or style chosen for each composition. Her vocals are not simply a voice; they serve as bridge to another world musically and spiritually. With the unique combination of Afro Peruvian sounds and Jazz, this fusion of cultures, beliefs, music and spiritualism all come together to form the Azu Project.
Corina splits her residence between Peru and New York, both hotbeds of music and culture. She cleverly takes the best of both worlds and gathers some fine musicians to accompany her on this project. Even though I cannot understand when she sings in Spanish there is an underlying message in the music that gets through because of its joyous sound and atmosphere. The one thing that is universally accepted is the sound of music regardless of the diction of a particular vocalist, if the music is strong enough to stand on its own then there is no issue relaying the essential musical telegraph that should go straight to your heart and soul.
The choice of jazz standards and originals is like listening to two entirely different recordings, which is the exception to the unwritten rule of consistency that every artist strives for on their albums. They are able to pull it off and come out the other side shining brightly. The ability to challenge your listeners and keep them attentive to your presentation is the key to success for any performer and the Azu Project not only manages this, they master it throughout this recording.
Afro Peruvian Jazz Celebration gives you equal measures of Spanish and English to keep it interesting and an overall rich musical experience that will always intrigue you when you listen. The unusual thing about this CD is its appeal at anytime regardless of your frame of mind. It works because it’s a celebration of life itself. That is enough to carry any listener day or night.

    • Hi Norman,

  5. Hello
My name is Kevin Darling-Finan and I am Station Manager of Radio Sherborne here in Dorset. We play a mix of reissues, Jazz, Classical and other eclectic stuff. I have three programmes, one dedicated to Jazz, one to Classical in which i try to showcase new releases, and a review programme dealing with reissues and newer Americana/Roots/Jazz/Blues/folk /psychedelic /krautrock type stuff. As well as this we programme other genres all week fronted by other presenters. So in one week you might hear Easy, Classical, Jazz , blues, R&B, 60s, TripHop, Pop, Anything at all, even Avant-garde. Dorset has not got many radio stations, we one of the few. There are numerous Jazz and Folk clubs here, and the live classical music scene is thriving. I know we can push any release that is important to you, because we have a bit of a closed market. Bearing in mind lots of people retire down here, the reissue market is quite a strong one. Recently I recieved 685 emails praising my content over a period of four days from 13 different countries in regard to our online output alone. i am famous for my ‘eclectic’ taste, and am a champion of North African and Arabian music.i was playing Soap Kills before they were fashionable! I play world mixed with Jazz mixed with Folk, and throw musichall and soul into the mix. It works. people love it and are always asking where they can buy the music I feature. I have a four hour programme, so I get a chance to showcase quite a bit. So if you have any promos you want to send, or anything you want given a bit of a push, email me at promos@radiosherborne.co.uk
